PETALING JAYA: The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project will accelerate development and growth in the East Coast region, says MCA.
Terengganu MCA chairman Datuk Toh Chin Yaw said the ECRL was expected to boost economic activities in industries like commerce, tourism and logistics, ultimately profiting people in the region.
Toh said MCA would prepare and formulate strategies to assist and support the people of Terengganu to participate and reap the benefits that come with the ECRL development.
"It is important for the locals of all races to be ready to grasp the opportunities alongside the project and to gain from its benefits," he said in a statement on Thursday.
He said the land journey from Selangor to Kota Baru would be reduced by half from the current eight-hour car drive to just over four hours by train.
"This is a great headway that brings much convenience to the people of the East Coast region," he said.
The RM55bil ECRL is expected to be completed by 2024, and will serve a population of 4.4 million people along the proximity of the railway line.
The ECRL, which is 534.58km long, was launched in Kuantan on Wednesday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
