SELANGOR Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali has called on all government agencies to step up enforcement and have stricter rules for developers.
“I urge the local councils, Drainage and Irrigation Department, land offices and Public Works Department to enforce stricter rules and regularly check on new development projects.
“Flooding happens in areas where new development takes shape and people in the surrounding areas have to suffer for it. I feel this is unfair, he said, referring to the flood incident in Hulu Langat last month.
“Authorities must play a vital role by enforcing the law and carrying out regular checks at construction sites to see if developers comply with the rules. If not, fines should be issued,” he added.
At the gathering, Azmin presented aid to 541 people from five villages who were affected by the floods on June 17.
Hulu Langat chief assistant district officer Mohd Raiz Radzuan said flood victims who moved to evacuation centres were given RM500 each while those who stayed back in their houses received RM250 each.
“The recipients were from Kampung Nanding, Kampung Sungai Serai, Kampung Batu 11, Dusun Tua, Kenangan Batu 16 New Village and Batu 14 New Village.
“A total 1,036 people were affected by the floods. We will organise the next round of aid presentation to recipients from other villages in Hulu Langat soon,” he added.
