MELAKA: Flash floods hit several areas in the state following a heavy downpour.
The areas affected yesterday were Taman Rambai Utama, Taman Rambai Jaya, Beretan Ulu, Tanjung Minyak in Paya Rumput, Panati Kundur, Kampung Bakar, Kampung Lapan and Enam, Taman Kesidang Section Two, Kampung Limbongan, Kampung Samak and Kampung Pulau Kepala.
The worst-hit area was Kampung Pantai Kundor, where 370 villagers had to wade through waist-deep water.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, who paid a visit to villagers at the submerged Kampung Pantai Kundor, said that the state government would expedite the construction of a monsoon drain at the village, whereby excess water would be directed to the Straits of Malacca.
“We have to acquire land to construct the drain and it will be done soon, he said.
Kampung Pantai Kundor’s village security and welfare committee chairman Samad Keling said the area had been prone to flash flooding since 2012 due to a narrow drainage system.
