KTM Komuter will offer direct train services from Port Klang, Rawang and Seremban to Batu Caves over a three-day period for Thaipusam.
The service will be available from 10.30pm tomorrow to 5.30am on Thursday and 5.30am on Feb 9 to 5.30am on Friday.
KTM Bhd operations department general manager S. Mahendran said there would be a total of 623 trips over the three days.
“Commuters will be able to save about 20 minutes on their journey to Batu Caves
“On Feb 9 and 10, the train frequency would be every 30 minutes. On normal times, it will be 15 minutes during peak hours and 45 minutes during off peak hours.
“We are expecting more than 500,000 passengers to make use of this special service,” he said.
Fare discounts will also be offered from Feb 8 to 11, said service general manager Khair Johari Ishak.
He added customers could enjoy the discount only when purchasing their tickets at the counter.
There will be a 20% discount on return tickets for adults travelling to the Batu Caves station.
“People with disabilities, students, the elderly and children between the ages of two and six, will receive a 50% discount while children under two years old travel for free,” he said, adding the discount was not available for those using Touch ‘n Go cards.
Khair Johari encouraged more people to use public transport to ease congestion during Thaipusam.
He said the KL Sentral station was integrated with Rapid KL and KL Monorail, Subang Jaya station and Bandar Tasik Selatan station with Rapid KL and Sungai Buloh KTM station with the MRT.
“It is only a five-minute walk from the Batu Caves KTM station to the temple,” he added.
Meanwhile, GrabCar will be offering an RM8 discount to passengers travelling to any KTM station from tomorrow to Feb 10.
It is limited to 1,000 passengers, for a maximum of two journeys and valid for those using debit or credit cards only.
Grab Malaysia head of partnership, Aaron Chin said more GrabCar drivers would be present during the Thaipusam period.
“We will be communicating with our drivers to be available at popular locations to service more passengers during this time,” he said.
