PETALING JAYA: S P Setia’s KL Eco City has successfully recorded 14 million safe-man hours since 2012, which promise stringent safety standard and vigorous training programs for the construction workers.
“With 4.2 million square feet already under construction, achieving this record of 14 million safety man-hours has not been easy. It is the collective efforts of every person on site to ensure that all our workers are safe,” said S P Setia deputy president and chief operating officer Datuk Wong Tuck Wai on Tuesday, May 10 in a ceremonial luncheon at the development’s sales gallery.
The ceremony was held to recognise the contractor’s contributions and commitments in achieving this significant safe man-hours.
The hours has been accumulated since mid-2012 when the first ground works started. It is calculated based on eight hours work per worker on a daily basis.
S P Setia demanded the contractors to implement, control, enforce and monitor the improvements of the project in a timely yet safe manner. Full time safety personnel, weekly site inspection training programs and regular engagement with the contractors and workers were among the factors that contributed a safer environment for the workers.
Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur Department of Occupational Safety and Health deputy director Zamzurin bin Maarof presented the certificates of appreciation to the contractors.
The 25-acre KL Eco City comprises of three tower blocks of luxurious serviced apartments, 40 stories of hotel and residences, strata offices and 12 blocks of boutique offices with exclusive lift lobbies located on a retail podium.
It will officially open its doors and hand over its strata office to purchasers by July 2016. This will be followed by the opening of the retail mall and the completion of Vogue Suites in 2017.
Also present were KL Eco City project director Awang Ahmad bin Kari, divisional general manager Tony Ling Thou Lung, Putra Perdana Construction Sdn Bhd chief executive director Goh Ceah Chuang, Trans Resources a Corporation Sdn Bhd deputy chief executive director Siti Sarlina, project manager Zulfitri Jasin, Ikhmas Jaya Sdn Bhd executive director Siew Mun Lout and Ireka Engineering and Construction Sdn Bhd project director Chan Huan Choong.
