THE inaugural Setia’s Perfect Reunion Chinese New Year 2017 celebration saw a huge number of visitors taking part in various activities at the Setia Welcome Centre in SPICE Arena in Relau, Penang.
Highlight of the day was the singing performances featuring Astro’s celebrities like Geraldine Gan, Danny Koo, Nicole Lai, Denise Camillia, Beta, Ezy and Apple Kho.
Besides being entertained with songs during the star-studded affair, visitors also got the chance to play stage games with the artistes before walking away with prizes.
Koo, or fondly known as ‘Danny boy’, was the crowd’s favourite as many fans could be seen taking videos and pictures of him performing.
He also came down from the stage to mingle freely with the audience during the celebration.
Lai, the Astro Star Quest 2012 winner, was also in her element when she wrapped up the day with her soulful rendition of qun xia zhi chen, a song made famous by Hong Kong superstar Eason Chan.
All the singers also belted out many Chinese New Year numbers to lift the festive mood as the Lunar New Year is just around the corner.
The lively emcees — MyFM radio DJs Emely Poon and Catherine Ang — also entertained the crowd with their jokes and banter throughout the evening.
The event ended with SP Setia Bhd president and chief executive officer Datuk Khor Chap Jen, deputy president and chief operating officer Datuk Wong Tuck Wai, executive vice-president Datuk Koe Peng Kang and other management staff going on stage to pose forphotographs with the celebrities.
SP Setia Bhd general manager (North) Ng Han Seong said Setia’s Chinese New Year theme this year was Jia Yuan Ren Yuan, which is loosely translated as ‘a home is only complete when all family members come together’.
“We always stress on the importance of having strong familyvalues.
“The celebration now is to build up the excitement leading to the Lunar New Year celebration at the end of the month.
“We are happy with the huge turnout,” he said.
The opening act — an acrobatic lion dance performance set the mood for the four-hour celebration which ended at 4pm on Saturday.
There were long queues at the welcome centre as visitors patiently waited for their turn at thevarious booths featuring rainbow calligraphy, dough doll-making, fortune telling and caricature drawings.
The God of Prosperity alsogave out mandarin oranges and angpows to children, while Setia’s staff members handed out winter melon candy, honey maltose sweets and candied haw on sticks to the visitors.
The guests were also feted to a high tea at the end of the event.
The next Setia’s Perfect Reunion Chinese Year celebration will be held on Saturday at Setia Tropika Welcome Centre in Johor, followed by the third and last one at Setia City Convention Centre, Setia Alam, Selangor on Jan 21.
