PETALING JAYA: Golf legend Jack Nicklaus will be designing one of three Country Garden Holdings Co Ltd’s (CGH) golf courses to be built in Johor, even as Chinese capital controls rattle liquidity outflows.
His company, Nicklaus Design, has developed hundreds of courses across more than 35 countries, while CGH has built 20 golf courses to date in China.
Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd (CGPV) head of design Chou Kai said the three 18-hole golf courses, a hotel and infrastructure will cost the Chinese developer RM1.2bil and will involve a total land area of about 2,000 acres. CGPV is a subsidiary of China’s CGH.
“The first golf course by Jack Nicklaus will have a total land area of 200 acres and will be completed by the end of 2017. It will be located within Gelang Patah,” Chou said in an email reply to StarBiz.
Total construction cost for all three courses will be about RM360mil, he said.
The total land area for all three courses, hotel and infrastructure works will bring the total acreage to about 2,000 acres, Chou said.
He said the entire project will be built on the mainland and will be located about seven kilometres from the first reclaimed island. It will be connected with a highway, which is currently being built.
Having sold some 15,000 residential units so far, Chou said CGPV is diversifying into the tourism, education and healthcare sectors.
“The golf resort will be a significant business attraction and will add value to our tourism focus. We will be targeting the international clientele and locals. The tropical climate will be a selling point to those from the cold climate,” he said.
Chou said CGPV will be diversifying its customer base to include Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, India and the Middle East.
Chou said the developer is using the Industrialised Building System, which requires less labour and shortens the construction time considerably. He said the building of Forest City has launched the setting up of a pre-cast industrial hub with an annual capacity of 400,000 cubic metres. The company is planning to have six factories.
