PUTRAJAYA: IOI City Mall phase 2 is on schedule to be opened to the public come November 2021 despite setbacks which resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Due to the movement control order (MCO) imposed in mid-March this year to stem the spread of the virus, construction of the mall was temporarily halted until early June.
However, developer IOI Properties Group Bhd (IOI Properties) commemorated the topping out of phase 2, located at IOI Resort City, to mark the completion of the mall’s structural works on Oct 6.
China Construction Third Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd (CCTE) is the main contractor for the expansion of IOI City Mall. The construction began in June 2018.
The topping-out ceremony was attended by IOI Properties chief executive officer Datuk Voon Tin Yow, property development chief operating officer Teh Chin Guan and mall operations senior general manager Chris Chong, as well as CCTE general manager Bai Jin Song.
Also present were IOI Properties project assistant general manager Calvin Sew and PI Architect director Datuk Tan Pei Ing.
Voon, in his speech, congratulated all parties involved in the successful completion of the building’s structural works.
“We are here to celebrate a momentous occasion and mark yet another important milestone in IOI Properties’ journey as an integrated developer. A topping-out ceremony is a tradition that celebrates the process of building and completing a project. Therefore, today’s ceremony acknowledges this pinnacle of achievement,” he added.
The existing IOI City Mall is the largest regional mall in southern Klang Valley. It offers an attractive selection of retail, supermarkets, cineplexes and F&B outlets to meet the needs of Malaysian shoppers.
With its occupancy rate of 96%, Voon said IOI City Mall phase 2 would add approximately one million sq ft to the existing 1.5 million sq ft of space.
“The high occupancy rate proves that the mall is a great success in southern Klang Valley. By November 2021, we will be ready to welcome shoppers and visitors to IOI City Mall phase 2, which is built upon IOI Resort City’s concept of Stay, Work and Play,” he added.
IOI City Mall phase 2 will include an indoor shopping mall and canopy-covered outdoor street retail promenade.
The mall will host approximately 9,000 parking bays. Among the notable features to excite visitors is the exhibition hall measuring up to 40,000 sq ft.
Also in the mix is a new cinema concept with IMAX hall, a stylish alfresco dining arcade with a porte cochère drop-off zone, new edutainment and entertainment centres for children and adults plus a rooftop sports centre and gym.
IOI City Mall is anchored in the heart of IOI Properties’ signature development, IOI Resort City, which fuses elements of integrated development and sustainable living across a 788-acre expanse in Putrajaya.
