An IoT-Ready Tourism Experience
SHAH ALAM: The Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Bin Abdul Aziz was in i-City for a development progress update of the DoubleTree by Hilton i-City hotel followed by a visit to the hotel development site today.
In April 2016, the Minister officiated the groundbreaking of the DoubleTree by i-City hotel and this follow-up visit was to view the progress.
"The Ministry have always taken the view that to achieve our 2020 KPI it is more than just increasing the number of tourist arrivals, but to also provide a better tourism experience and encourage greater tourists spending power. Therefore, besides adding new tourism products, more 4-star and 5-star hotels and convention centres will be required to attract more spendings," commented Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Bin Abdul Aziz.
"I am very happy to see that the construction of the DoubleTree by Hilton i-City hotel is progressing as planned and will be open in 2020. The inclusion of i-City’s hotel plans as part of its One Stop Tourism Hub is a good sign that the private sector is playing it's role in helping the country achieve its economic and development goals."
According to i-City director Monica Ong, Hilton is the no. 1 recognized brand in the hospitality industry today, thus the DoubleTree by Hilton provides guests the same experience in terms of quality of service. Incorporating intelligent features in all of i-City’s development, with a GDC of RM250 million, DoubleTree by i-City hotel will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The Minister was also briefed on i-City's plan to build on its Internet-of-Things (IoT) infra to make the DoubleTree by Hilton i-City hotel a smart hotel project, according to a statement.
"The Government has a strong digital transformation agenda as part of our economic development plan and I am encouraged to note that i-City is bringing together the digital and tourism concepts," added the Minister.
i-City has also built on its digital and tourism branding to launch its Hill10 Residence.
According to Monica Ong, the Hill10 Residence @i-City is located above the DoubleTree by Hilton i-City hotel and will be fitted and furnished with interior design concepts similar to Hilton Worldwide standards. A first of it’s kind, the stylish and luxurious exclusive suites will be eqipped with modern conveniences incorporated with IoT-ready features.
"I am happy that i-City is able to build on these for its property development plans as it means that they have added incentive to invest in tourism products. All this is good for the Malaysian tourism industry," added the Minister.
