PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s largest financial institution, Maybank has officially launched its new permanent alternate office in i-City’s Finance Avenue. The 33-storey office tower previously known as Sumurwang Tower has been renamed Mercu Maybank to commemorate the occasion for both Maybank and I-Berhad, the developer behind the ultrapolis i-City. Maybank is set to locate 1,500 staff in the tower.
"This is especially remarkable to me given where we started and how we have evolved. I envisioned i-City to be an international business hub by day and a vibrant entertainment city at night. Designed by award-winning innovator Jon Jerde, i-City was built, bit by bit based on the fundamental concept of Experience Makes The Place," said I-Berhad chairman Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong.
"As such, I wanted technology to be intricately woven in the i-City DNA to offer the best experience to people living, working and visiting i-City. At i-City, my intention was to make people actually feel connected and empowered by technology," he said.
Maybank, in making i-City the better half of its headquarters, adhered to the forward-looking and human-centric philosophy of i-City and a testament to its standpoint as a flourishing finance avenue, he said.
"It reaffirms our capacity to meet the requirements of leading financial institutions in terms of technology and location. Even when it was a barren piece of land, I foresaw i-City’s potential given it was located strategically along the Federal Highway, 40 kilometres away from Kuala Lumpur.
"Now, our Grade A GBI tower equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology, dedicated internet access (DIA) powered by 400G high availability (HA) network, private cloud and Tier 3 Data Centre integrated to the tower stands tall between DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, serviced apartments and Central I-City Mall," he said.
