PETALING JAYA: The StarProperty Awards 2020 has returned for the fifth time, and this year’s award category recognises deserving hotel developments in Malaysia, one that endeavours to provide guests with a memorable experience through a fusion of exceptional design, comfort, luxury and hospitality.
This year sees two awards specifically for the hospitality sector - The Creative Touch Award and The Facelift Award. The Creative Touch Award recognises hotels and resorts that showcase a good combination of art and science at enhancing the interior. On the other hand, The Facelift Award will feature hotels and resorts that have recently finished a full renovation of its exterior, guest rooms and public spaces.
The renovation project should showcase restoration and the adaptive reuse of existing structures of the resort unique elements in its planning, design and construction. To be eligible to participate for the awards, hotels and resorts should have a rating of four stars and above, and have been in operation since 2016. These award categories are a collaboration between StarProperty.my and the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID).
According to Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers vice president Leong Ta Wah, these awards shall create a new buzz to the hospitality sector, providing hoteliers with the perfect opportunity to rebrand and reintroduce their hotels to existing and new customers.
He further stated that the winning hotel should exhibit sustainable features, engaging design, provide amenities and services suitable to the category on which it is competing, suitable lighting, and efficient space usage. The winning hotel ideally can juggle between such elements while not compromising on practicality, commercial viability and maintainability.
Drawing attention towards the importance of the award, StarProperty.my assistant general manager Ernest Towle said, “In a sea of many players in the industry, how do you see your hotel make an impact?”
“This award highlights and showcases participating hotels wanting to make a positive impact on the hospitality industry. By participating, these establishments demonstrate commitment towards the hospitality industry in Malaysia as well as building upon the high standards already in place,” he said.
Giving a few pointers, Leong said existing hotels need to stay “current” by upgrading their facilities, amenities and services to keep up with the changes in consumer expectation. “It is all about early space planning and for hoteliers to uphold good and efficient work culture,” he explained.
The nominations for The Creative Touch and Face Lift Awards is now open until 31/1/2020.
