A small plant in a home makes a BIG difference.
To promote sustainable living, StarProperty.my will be giving away 1,100 edible and ornamental plants in the upcoming StarProperty.my fairs held at NU Sentral, Publika Mall and KLCC.
The StarProperty.my team recently went to Free Tree Society (FTS) Kuala Lumpur Nursery to plant and transplant the 20 types of plants for this CSR program.
Heeding instructions from FTS president Baida Hercus, the team members dug their hands into the soil to prepare small plants that bring a little more green to Mother Nature.
StarProperty Sdn Bhd assistant general manager KC Tan said the 1,100 trees will be given to the public in selected StarProperty.my fairs to encourage them to create a greener household.
“A small plant in our home reminds us the importance of environmental-friendly living, and contributes to a greener and healthier environment for the future generations,” she added.
The edible types of plants include blue pea flower, Brazillian spinach, ginseng jawa, Indian borage, lime, longevity spinach, Malabar spinach, moringa, mulberry, papaya, passion fruit and pisang berangan.
The ornamental plants selected include desert rose, duranta, kalanchoe, ruellia, Ruellia rosea, Sanchezia, spider plants and Zigzag.
The StarProperty.my Fair at Nu Sentral (August 15-21) and Publika Mall (Sept 26- Oct 02) will be giving out 400 plants respectively, while visitors of the KLCC fair will have a chance to take home one of the 300 plants prepared for both aesthetical and practical purposes.
FTS will participate in the KLCC Fair on Saturday, November 19 to answer questions about the plants on the day of the event from the public. Care sheets with details on how to care for the plants will also be provided.
FTS was founded three years ago to promote the spirit of Arbor Day, a holiday to encourage individuals and groups to plant and care for trees.
Since then, FTS had collaborated with multiple parties to give away 150 types of plants and has given out approximately 3,000 trees this year. Its ultimate target is to reach a figure of 6,000 trees per year.
Hercus said most locals preferred to have a concrete garden as they hold a perception that a green garden is dirty and troublesome, and the organisation has hoped to encourage more people to plant more trees in the house or the garden.
FTS Nursery at Bangsar is opened for the public to volunteer on Tuesday and Saturday. For more details, visit its Facebook page (Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur).
