THE zone that encompassed PJS 7, PJS 9, PJS 11 and Taman Sunway Utama in Bandar Sunway will now represent the council at the state’s Clean Zone programme.
The state-wide campaign was launched in 2010 with the aim to turn Selangor into the cleanest state in the country.
Zone 3 and Zone 1 had won the competition in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
The winner was announced at a ceremony witnessed by Zone 2 residents, Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh, and MPSJ councillors Ken Chia, Chang Kim Loong and Wan Hock Leong.
MPSJ had allocated RM39,000 to the Zone 2 residents’ committee (JKP) while Yeoh allocated another RM10,000.
She said the clean zone programme could help strengthen the community.
“Previously, the Zone 3 JKP was not very active, but after their zone was selected to join the clean zone programme in 2014, they became very active as they worked with one goal in mind,” she said.
She advised the community to play a role too instead of letting the committee do all the work.
“Check your surroundings for mosquito breeding spots. Every year the state spends a lot of money to clear illegally dumped rubbish, it is taxpayers’ money that is used.
“A place will not be dirty if people do not litter,” she said.
With four universities and colleges falling under Zone 2, Yeoh said the student community was also a challenge.
“The campaign will further enhance Zone 2, which is also a tourist spot (as Sunway Pyramid and Sunway Lagoon is situated here),” she said.
On a separate note, Yeoh suggested there be a quota to select councillors from non-governmental organisation.
