KUALA LUMPUR: Penang’s famous Gurney Drive can pride itself with a refreshing new landmark - Gurney Walk, which is slated to be completed in October 2021.
The project by Plenitude Bhd is poised to be an invigorating social and cultural hub. It aims to bring together the Penang community and its expanding population of discerning consumers in the vicinity, which include tourists and the expatriate community.
Gurney Walk will serve as a unique space and platform for the community that exudes contemporary charm and youthful sophistication, blending the arts, culture, artisanal goods and gastronomic offerings, all under one roof.
“Careful consideration and planning have gone into the use of space, to strike a balance between design and functionality. It is a place where people can break away from the mundane and come together to experience something truly refreshing or to be inspired. Needless to say, it’s going to be very Instagram-worthy,” said Plenitude group CEO Tan Seng Chye.
With 60,000 sq ft of leasable space, Gurney Walk will feature a sea-facing, aesthetically-pleasing design which accentuates human interaction with nature while exuding an artisanal vibe, complemented by a colourful glass façade, creative corners and a minimalist interior.
The ground floor of Gurney Walk will feature a wide-ranging and alluring mix of food and beverage, and dining outlets. Also, in the mix are a selection of convenience stores and a specialty wine and cheese mart.
On the first floor, those in need of some quality retail therapy can delight in a diverse collection of specialty stores, boutiques and salons.
Meanwhile, the second floor will feature a home furnishing store, a cooking school and a children’s edutainment centre; as well as spas.
More than 30% of net leasable areas within the development have been taken up.
“We certainly have received positive responses from prospective tenants, who are confident of the immense potential presented by Gurney Walk.
"However, the process will be selective in order to ensure quality with the type of trades and concepts that have been put together for Gurney Walk,” said Tan.
Adding to its unique charm, Gurney Walk will also feature art exhibitions and workshops, amidst other planned offerings and community-centric events.
Gurney Walk is situated in the heart of Gurney Drive, a thriving stretch in the Pearl of the Orient, synonymous with street food and hawker centres while accommodating a good number of hotels, condominiums and office buildings.
Gurney Drive also serves as a pit stop between Penang International Airport and the famous Batu Ferringhi beach and is near affluent suburbs of Pulau Tikus and Tanjung Bungah.
All these have also given rise to the vicinity’s popularity amongst locals and visitors alike who have come to delight in Gurney Drive as their ‘playground’.
Gurney Walk will also be directly connected to the Ascott Gurney Penang, which is currently undergoing renovation and refurbishment and is also slated to open in the third quarter of 2021.
