Traffic lights in front of Aeon Big have been removed and the road is now a loop.

THERE will be changes to the traffic system at Jalan Kemajuan, Subang Jaya effective 7am today.

With the traffic lights in front of Aeon Big hypermarket removed, the road will be turned into a loop.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh said the U-turn in front of Subang Parade Shopping Centre had been redesigned to facilitate better traffic flow.

“Previously it was a sharp turn; now it is a guided U-turn and the lane has been widened.

“The cost for the U-turn and removal of traffic lights was borne by Sime Darby, under the council’s conditions,” she said.

Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) president Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said council enforcement officers would be stationed to control traffic along Jalan Kemajuan today.

“We will also ask the traffic police for assistance. Hopefully, the changes will improve traffic flow,” he said, adding that RapidKL and Selangorku bus drivers would be informed to drop off passengers further from the U-turn.

MPSJ Zone 1 residents committee (JKP) secretary A.B. Naicker, an engineer, said illegal parking in front of Subang Parade contributed to the traffic congestion.

“There are three lanes but one is taken up by illegal parking, so people tend to drop off in the middle lane. Sometimes buses stop in the middle too because taxis are parked at the bus stop, leaving only one lane for motorists, hence the traffic congestion.

“For the first few weeks, there will be teething problems because people are still getting used to the changes,” he said.

Yeoh urged motorists not to park illegally in front of Subang Parade.

“Subang Parade has told tenants and shoppers to avoid parking illegally in front of the mall. I cannot understand the mindset of people who can go shopping yet do not want to pay for parking,” she added.
