KUALA LUMPUR: Battery energy storage giant Gotion High-Tech (Gotion) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Itramas Corporation and UEM Sunrise Bhd, forging a partnership aimed at establishing an advanced research and development (R&D) centre within the renewable energy cluster at UEM Sunrise's Industrial Park in Gerbang Nusajaya, Johor.
This initiative is part of a one-gigawatt (GW) hybrid solar power plant project under Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap, led by UEM Group Berhad through its subsidiary, UEM Lestra Bhd.
The signatories included Gotion director Dr Yan Changqing, UEM Sunrise chief financial officer Hafizuddin Sulaiman and Itramas Corporation managing director Lee Choo Boo. Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Chang Lih Kang was also present.
Under this partnership, Gotion will provide advanced battery energy storage system (BESS) technology, while Itramas will focus on local market access and commercialisation. UEM Sunrise will facilitate top-quality infrastructure and foster innovation and sustainability.
This collaboration aims to improve renewable energy capabilities and reinforces UEM Sunrise’s commitment to growing Iskandar Puteri as a hub for future industries. The Industrial Park in Gerbang Nusajaya is expected to create significant job opportunities and contribute to the local economy while empowering local researchers with access to advanced technologies and global expertise.
“This partnership will leverage Gotion's advanced technology in BESS, combined with Itramas's market insights and UEM Sunrise's infrastructure capabilities, to jointly promote the development of the renewable energy industry in Malaysia and the Southeast Asia region,” said Gotion.
“This partnership amplifies our industrial development strategy, boosting our industrial development values through construction for this transformative project. It embodies our ambition to push boundaries, champion sustainability, and establish Iskandar Puteri as a thriving hub for technological and economic progress,” said Hafizuddin.
“The R&D centre will play a pivotal role in fostering local talent, driving technological breakthroughs, and creating value for the RE and EV ecosystems, further advancing Malaysia’s position as a regional leader in clean energy solutions,” added Lee.
