KOTA KEMUNING:  With 15% of Malaysia’s population projected to be over 60 by 2030, developers face the challenge of creating communities that cater to a maturing demographic while maintaining intergenerational appeal. Gamuda Land, in collaboration with Meaningfull Life, is pioneering a new eldercare initiative within its twentyfive7 township, setting a new benchmark for integrated multigenerational living.

Changing population dynamics are reshaping the priorities of urban planners and property developers worldwide. According to the World Health Organisation, the proportion of people over 60 is expected to double by 2050, necessitating inclusive urban designs that address healthcare, social engagement and independence.

In Malaysia, where the senior population is growing rapidly, the demand for solutions that integrate eldercare into existing infrastructures has become urgent. Developers are uniquely positioned to address this need by creating ecosystems that promote active aging, reduce the strain on public resources and enhance community well-being.

A new model for eldercare
Recognising these trends, an award-winning eldercare and hospitality company is set to launch The Meaningfull Clubhouse at Quayside Plaza in twentyfive7. Scheduled to open in March 2025, this clubhouse represents Malaysia’s first eldercare model embedded within a multigenerational township. The initiative underscores Gamuda Land’s commitment to creating holistic, sustainable communities that evolve with residents’ needs.

Meaningfull Life chief executive officer Anna Chew said: “This partnership goes beyond caregiving. It’s about creating opportunities for seniors to thrive—to engage in meaningful  activities, maintain independence and stay connected to their families and communities.”

Traditionally, eldercare has required seniors to move into standalone facilities, where amenities and services were often confined and costly, creating a sense of isolation. This innovative model integrates the extensive amenities within the township—including parks, retail outlets and medical facilities—with professional services from Meaningfull Life and Gamuda Clinic.

This approach allows seniors to enjoy a quality lifestyle with their families while receiving expert care. By embedding eldercare into the township ecosystem, the model is more affordable, flexible and approachable for families.

Based on findings from comprehensive studies on eldercare and community health, Gamuda Land’s townships address several critical areas:

  • Health and nutrition: Meals curated by Meaningfull Life’s dietitians in partnership with Quayside Mall’s F&B tenants.
  • Healthcare access: Collaboration with Gamuda Clinic for quality medical support.
  • Social connectivity: Programs like woodworking workshops, pickleball games and group outings foster interaction and reduce loneliness.
  • Physical and cognitive wellness: Activities designed by physiotherapists and psychologists to encourage mobility, mental stimulation and overall well-being.

“When we envisioned twentyfive7, we wanted more than just a residential development,” said  Gamuda Land chief operating officer Wong Siew Lee. “Our goal was to foster a self-sustaining, family-oriented ecosystem where every generation— from children to seniors—feels at home.”

This initiative is part of Gamuda Land’s broader vision to redefine urban living across its developments. With plans to replicate this eldercare model in other townships, the company aims to create communities that prioritise sustainability, inclusivity and quality of life.

Also at the signing ceremony was twentyfive7 general manager Suzan  Ong.
