KUALA LUMPUR: Gamuda Land has formed a strategic partnership with Maxis to create Malaysia’s first Maxis-delivered 5G township for Gamuda Cove,  the latest township development for Gamuda Land.

Both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Maxis to provide and deploy 5G network infrastructure and services in Gamuda Cove in the future. The partnership will also see both parties exploring smart city and smart retailing solutions across all Gamuda Land townships in Malaysia.

Once it is available at Gamuda Cove, it means much more than just enhanced connectivity with speeds of up to 10 times higher than what the 4G network can do today. Importantly, it opens up the community to unimaginable possibilities of smart technologies. The current 4G era has enabled technologies such as seamless mobile and cloud applications. By evolving to 5G, it will enable much higher speed data transfer, low latency and greater reliability.

“This MoU is a crucial step for us towards developing a smart, sustainable city in Gamuda Land townships. We definitely see technology as a key enabler in driving a smart and sustainable environment into the future, but a smart city is not only about cutting-edge technology. It is about smart planning ahead and visualising long-term growth for our townships,” said Ngan.

Gamuda Land will also be working with Maxis to fibre up parts of Gamuda Cove with its high-speed broadband connectivity, opening up possibilities for digital services for the township’s community as well as businesses.

What the community will be witnessing is a quantum leap into more possibilities, where technology such as the Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and devices, autonomous vehicles as well as robotic applications that need to utilize and load a vast amount of data will be ubiquitous in the township. Maxis has long started its 5G journey, assessing the technology and conducting demo trials in its test lab over the last few years.

According to the press release, Ngan stated that Gamuda Land’s masterplan blueprint needs to be flexible to adopt new technologies in mobility and lifestyle. This is where Maxis’ expertise in network infrastructure and services will add value to Gamuda Land’s townships.

“At Maxis, our commitment is to cater to the evolving digital lifestyles of everyone, to reach even more individuals, homes and businesses through our capabilities in converged solutions,” said Gokhan.

“We are pleased to be working with Gamuda Land for the provision of world-class fixed and mobile infrastructure, with our shared ambition of providing total connectivity solutions for entire communities,” he said.

In March 2019, Maxis was the first to commence 5G live trials in the country to provide a deeper analysis of 5G characteristics, including the use of spectrum in higher bands, co-existence with current services, as well as use cases such as Gigabit high-speed Mobile Internet and Ultra High-Definition VR applications.

Dupped “nature sanctuary, smart city,” Gamuda Cove is Gamuda Land’s latest township development located in the Southern Klang Valley, along the Elite Highway and opposite Cyberjaya, with close proximity to KLIA and KLIA2.

The 1,530-acre township is poised to be Malaysia’s first nature-inspired smart city with the inclusion of smart transit system, seamless mobility planning and sustainable landscaping that creates a healthy ecosystem for the community.

Nature is omnipresent within Gamuda Cove as it borders the  1,100-acre Paya Indah Wetlands on the South and 2,500-acre Kuala Langat Forest Reserve on the North. It is further surrounded by indigenous woodlands and waterside meadows.

Featuring a 60-acre pet friendly central park with interconnected lakes, Gamuda Land’s sustainable landscaping mindfully blends the wetlands and forest reserves into its neighbourhoods.

Comprising more than 20,000 residential units upon full completion, Gamuda Cove is envisioned as a holistic township with residential, commercial, wellness, entertainment and educational components.
