THE much-delayed flyover linking the Federal Highway to Section 7 Shah Alam near i-City is expected to open by February next year.

The flyover’s project manager, PKNS Infra Bhd, said it would hand over the flyover to the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) by mid-February.

“It will be handed over after several modifications are completed, including elevating the multiclass lane barrier,” said PKNS public relations manager Ishak Hashim.

The modifications are part of new conditions set by LLM.

The flyover is owned by Mentri Besar Incorporated and built by PKNS Infra Bhd.

The RM45.9mil project was completed in July last year, with the cost borne by developers in the area.

The flyover was built to ease congestion into Section 7, a residential and commercial area.

Two universities are also located there – Universiti Selangor (Unisel) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

The newly built Shah Alam Hospital will also be opening its doors to the public in January.

The new medical facility is expected to cater to the Subang and Shah Alam population and will ease the burden of Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang, which is overcrowded.

As such, the opening of the flyover is timely and expected to draw even more people to the area

Selangor Tourism and Culture Department director Arshad Mustapa acknowledged that people were frustrated about the delay.

“We can understand their frustrations because it can get quite congested, especially during the school holidays,” he said.

Arshad said the opening of the flyover was important as i-City had become a top tourist draw in Selangor.

He added that LLM was conducting several tests and was confident that the flyover would be open by next year.
