KUALA LUMPUR: Five leading Chinese renewable energy companies have committed to supporting Malaysia's energy transition by investing in the UEM Sunrise Renewable Energy Industrial Park in Gerbang Nusajaya, Iskandar Puteri, Johor. These companies will establish manufacturing facilities and act as off-takers for the park's 1 GW hybrid solar power plant, a key project under Malaysia's National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
The companies - China Machinery Engineering Wuxi Co Ltd (CMEC WUXI), Wuxi Longmax Technology Co Ltd (Longmax), Gotion, Hopewind and Huasun - will collaborate with UEM Sunrise Bhd, Itramas Corporation (Itramas) and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to develop a world-class renewable energy hub in Malaysia.
An agreement exchange ceremony for the project took place today, attended by Economy Affairs Minister Mohd Rafizi Ramli as well as Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Key attendees included CMEC 5th complete plants division deputy manager Hu Jianhui, UEM Sunrise chief executive officer (CEO) Sufian Abdullah, Anhui Huasun Energy Co Ltd project development director Jacky Chan, UEM Lestra acting CEO Harman Faiz, UEM Group managing director Datuk Amran Hafiz Affifudin, Itramas managing director Lee Choo Boo, CMEC new energy division 2 deputy general manager Olivia Dong and Longmax CEO Henry Yang.
The Gerbang Nusajaya Renewable Energy (RE) Industrial Park is a strategic part of UEM Group's 1 GW solar hybrid power plant project which aims to make a significant contribution to Malaysia's renewable energy infrastructure. This initiative will not only spur local and regional market growth but also position Malaysia as a leading renewable energy hub in ASEAN.
“The RE Industrial Park in Gerbang Nusajaya is a pivotal component of our landmark 1 GW solar hybrid power plant project under NETR. The interest from foreign companies and their forthcoming involvement in the project will strategically position Malaysia to drive substantial economic growth through foreign direct investment. Furthermore, it will accelerate our domestic direct investment objectives and reinforce our comprehensive value creation strategy, all of which are aligned with our parent company UEM Group's agenda,” said Harman.
