KUALA LUMPUR: To continuously pursue the lofty goal of design excellence, the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) will be hosting its annual Malaysian Interior Design Awards (Reka Awards) as planned.
While the Reka Awards 2021 has opened its doors for new and exciting interior design submissions, the celebration of the event has been postponed to March next year due to the prolongation of the movement control orders (MCOs). In lieu of this, entries will now close on Nov 30, 2021.
The premier event was created to further enhance and elevate the nation’s interior design standards by acknowledging and honouring excellence in creativity and innovation in the profession.
As the premier national institute representing the interior design profession in the country, MIID strives to represent Malaysian interior design professionals, affiliated industry players, related specialised consultancies, the tertiary interior design educational community, and the general public.
The vision of the institute is to develop a sophisticated society of Malaysians who are conversant and appreciative of the creative world of interior design. This year’s competition is focused on two award categories, namely Design Excellence and Industry Excellence.
Honours will be conferred to Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia’s (LAM) registered members who have demonstrated creative excellence in their submitted projects in the Design Excellence category.
The Design Excellence award offers 10 sub-categories covering various building classifications such as Public and Institutional, Leisure and Entertainment, Food and Beverage, Corporate Offices, Hospitality, Retail and Exhibition, Residentials, Show Units, Green Interiors and Adaptive Reuse and Student’s work.
For 2021, in conjunction with MIID’s tenth Anniversary, the Best Interior Design of the Year award will make its maiden appearance to honour the best project across all categories. MIID’s Industry Excellence award categories are specifically catered for Interior Builders, Interior Products, and Research and Development within the interior design work sphere.
The awards are intended to acknowledge the consistency and outstanding performances and contributions of industry players that have elevated industry standards and promoted quality awareness in line with MIID’s objectives of interior design excellence.
MIID has also convened an impressive and notable array of professional and award-winning designers across the Asian continent to evaluate submitted entries for the REKA Awards 2021. Further information on the Reka Awards is obtainable at https://miid.org.my/miid-reka-awards-2021/.
