SELANGOR: Rehda Institute, the training, research and education arm of the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association of Malaysia (Rehda) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd (BPMB) to further research into the real estate industry.
The partnership aims to combine the expertise and resources of both organisations to focus on the real estate industry and will involve research collaborations on topics such as property development, housing policies, banking and smart cities development. Its first research collaboration will focus on affordable housing.
The MoU was signed at the Rehda Institute Regional Housing Conference 2023, held at Le Meridien Hotel Petaling Jaya. The conference was graced by Local Government Development Deputy Minister Akmal Nasrulah.
Rehda Institute was represented by chairman Datuk Jeffrey Ng Tiong Lip and trustee Tan Sri Eddy Chen while BPMB was represented by its group chief executive officer Roni Abdulwahab.
“We are thrilled to embark on this collaboration with BPMB. This partnership will enhance awareness and knowledge of affordable housing, which is crucial in times like this. Despite many initiatives to make housing more affordable, it remains a challenge for many households in Malaysia. Together with BPMB, we hope to create a more inclusive society where everyone has access to decent and affordable homes,” Ng said.
“At BPMB, we recognise the impact of affordable housing on achieving social inclusion. We believe that this research collaboration with REHDA institute will help provide better insight into affordable housing for all Malaysians. We are proud to be the first financial institution to collaborate with the Rehda Institute, especially on such a critical sector,” Roni added.
The collaboration will extend further than research, including events, conferences, programmes and other activities.
Rehda Institute trustee Datuk Sri Michael Yam, trustee Datuk Ng Seing Liong, trustee Datuk Muztaza Mohamad, Rehda Malaysia chairman Datuk NK Tong, Rehda Malaysia national council member Datuk Tan Hon Lim, Rehda Malaysia national council member Desmond Yap Poh Seng, and Rehda Kuala Lumpur chairlady Ra Adrina Muztaza were also in attendance of the MoU signing.
