CLEANLINESS is one of the crucial habits an individual must have and it begins from home.

Wanting to drive behavioural change towards adopting a cleaner environment, the Kota Alam Shah Constituency office with Klang Municipal Council (MPK) launched the Cleanliness Starts from Home – Gotong Royong Perdana campaign at Taman Palm Grove in south Klang.

Kota Alam Shah assemblyman V. Ganapathi Rao said the campaign’s prime objective was to raise awareness and encourage south Klang residents to stop littering or dumping garbage at road corners.

“Our aim is to engage the people of Taman Palm Grove, an old neighbourhood and raise awareness. It is important to push for behavioural change where people are reminded to adopt good cleanliness practices and not litter,” he said.

Taman Palm Grove Rukun Tetangga Area chairman S. Kanapathy said he was glad that the launch of the cleanliness campaign had begun at the neighbourhood.

“We are supportive of this campaign as it will create a cleaner environment for all,” he said.

MPK councillor P. Yugarajah, who joined the campaign with the residents and children in the area, said the cleanliness habit must be taught to children at an early age.

“Of late we are seeing plastic bottles littered on roadsides and in drains. It is becoming a common sight and we need to turn around this situation through engagement with people in the neighbourhood,” he said.

MPK’s Environment Department and Kota Raja Fire Station staff cleaned up Taman Palm Grove. Seven men from the Fire Station helped to flush the drains of silt using the nearby water hydrants.
