PROPERTY buyers of Astana Square in Taman Daya, Selayang, want the Gombak Land Office to speed up and resolve the land title issues for the abandoned project.
After almost two decades of waiting for the project to be completed, buyers said they now had been slapped with a notice to pay RM10mil in land premiums.
The developer was supposed to build and hand over 16 office units and 160 service apartment units but the project has been abandoned since 2001.
Kepong Community Service Centre head Yee Poh Ping said the buyers feared that they had to absorb more cost because of the delay.
“When the developer was declared bankrupt, a liquidator was appointed by the court to complete the project, which is currently at 99% completion.
“Our contention is that the RM10mil premiums were supposed to have been paid by the developer before they even started the project.
“It is not fair to the 176 buyers to pay RM57,000 each,” Yee said during a meeting with the buyers.
He also said that after a meeting with the Gombak Land Office in November last year, there had been no updates from the land office.
“We tried contacting the Selangor Mentri Besar’s Office about this but were given the run-around,” he added.
Property buyer N. Gopinathan, 68, said he had to service his RM80,000 bank loan for the property even though the unit was not ready.
“I had poured my life savings, including a RM50,000 down payment, into purchasing a property here.
“This was supposed to be our family home after I retired from the Armed Forces,” he said.
He added that he had paid an additional 23% from the original unit price to support the project revival cost.
When launched in 2001, the office units were priced from RM600,000 while the serviced apartments ranged between RM90,000 and RM300,000.
