SELANGOR: The Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) is planning to kickstart a networking platform titled Women in Real Estate in conjunction with International Women’s Day.
The platform would allow female professionals in the field to share ideas, improve their skills, as well as promote advocacy and awareness of their issues. The platform will also provide mentorship opportunities to younger women starting out in the field of real estate.
“Men and women both have a part to play in the development of a nation and gender alone should not be the determinant of what one can contribute,” MIEA president Chan Ai Cheng said.
Women in real estate comprise approximately 30,000 practitioners, and MIEA reported that the real estate practice provided a level playing field for all genders.
Chan announced this during a two-day forum held in conjunction with International Women’s Day. The event was organised by MIEA, Subang Jaya City Council’s Zone 4 Resident Representative Council and Damen Mall USJ1.
The forum hosted approximately 30 booths, headed by women entrepreneurs. Subang Jaya Assemblywoman Michelle Ng delivered the keynote address and moderated a forum on the role of women in society.
Speakers and panellists included Chan, SWET Group’s Sheila Wong, Ms Chinese Cosmo’s Carrie Lee, Air Selangor’s Priscilla Alfred, Homefield’s Ainal Maryam, DaMen’s Evelyn Woon, Medi Beaute’s Mandy Low, Parent First’s Dr Elaine Loo and PropNex’s Evon Heng.
