KUALA LUMPUR: Officials of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will face the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to explain the agency’s controversial investments overseas.
PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the panel’s focus would be on properties bought in Melbourne, which are also being investigated by Australian police.
The Pulai MP said the committee wanted to check if Mara’s investment arm – Mara Inc – had overpaid for the properties.
“We plan to call them at the end of August. Letters will be issued next week,” he said.
Australian daily The Age reported last month that Mara had overpaid RM13.8mil for Dudley House and that Malaysian officials had received kickbacks in the deal.
The top two Mara Inc bosses, chairman Datuk Mohammad Lan Allani and CEO Datuk Abdul Halim Rahim, have been temporarily relieved of their duties to facilitate investigations.
