KUALA LUMPUR: Mah Sing Group Bhd (Mah Sing), a leading property developer in Malaysia, has handed over a RM20mil badminton arena to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and at the same time, commemorated several of its significant milestones.
Named the Arena Badminton DBKL Cheras, the arena occupies 2.25 acres and comprises a total of twelve courts in two halls, one of which has a seating capacity of over 600. It also comes with a multipurpose hall that fits 450, a gymnasium, a pre-function lobby, an air-conditioned cafeteria, four retail shops, male and female suraus and covered car park bays including disabled parking bays.
The arena was handed to DBKL, which will be managing the venue for public usage. DBKL Mayor Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh received the keys to the arena and the event was witnessed by the Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as well as Prime Minister’s political secretary Azman Abidin.
“We commend Mah Sing Group for their remarkable efforts in building facilities for our community. The newly completed badminton arena will provide a conducive environment for the community to have an active and healthy lifestyle, as well as for youths with athletic aspirations to train and develop themselves,” said Wan Azizah.
She added that proper maintenance of the facility will be important for the community to truly reap the benefits.
Thanking Mah Sing, Kamarulzaman commended the developer for completing the arena with high specifications. “The completion of the state-of-the-art badminton arena stands as a testament to their dedication to enhancing the well-being and recreational opportunities of our city,” he said.
Mah Sing chief executive officer Datuk Ho Hon Sang said the courts were built to Badminton Association Malaysia’s (BAM) specifications.
“The courts are in accordance with standards and specifications set by BAM, ie, court dimension, ceiling height, flooring, ventilation and more. It is also equipped with Olympic grade 6mm thick sports flooring to provide protection and safety for low-impact activities for elite and performance sports,” he said.
Also present was Mah Sing founder and managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum.
The event also commemorated milestones achieved for M Vertica, a mixed development with a gross development value of RM2.2bil, located adjacent to the arena. The high-rise obtained an 83% Qlassic score for phase 2 quality construction, achieved eight million man-hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI) and was recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for having the biggest residents’ facility deck in Malaysia. The 11.25-acre M Vertica is one of Mah Sing’s largest affordable serviced apartment developments.
