JINJANG Selatan Tambahan (JST) Lot 9714 residents are refusing to move out until their new dwellings are completed.
The 30ha land has been earmarked for a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) joint-venture mixed development project with Zil Property Bhd comprising office buildings, low- and medium-cost apartments, shophouses, serviced apartments, a convention centre and a hotel.
Over 500 former Temporary Occupation Licence (TOL) holders, about 100 longhouse units, squatters, a temple, shops and restaurants were supposed to receive eviction notices in phases but it had been put on hold pending negotiations
Although the development plan was approved in 2013, DBKL and the developer had failed to come to an agreement with residents on the compensation plan.
“There are many abandoned projects in Kuala Lumpur and the economy is not good.
“What will we do if the project gets delayed or abandoned?
“RM600 per month rental allowance is too low and it is almost impossible to get anything in the Jinjang area for that amount.
“We want to continue staying in this area while the developer builds the apartment,” he said.
Tan Chee Seong, 42, said he stayed in landed property but the developer was only giving him an 800sq ft apartment.
“Some houses have more than one family. The developer offered every additional family the option to purchase a unit for RM200,000 each.
“We want the units to be offered at RM42,000 instead, the same price that longhouse residents would pay. We also want the occupants of the shophouses and 17 houses that were demolished to be compensated.
“We have submitted our requests to DBKL on Sept 14 and hope to get a favourable reply soon.
“Otherwise, we will contact the Federal Territories Ministry,” he said.
DBKL could not be contacted at press time.
