SINGLE mother Lo Lee Khi was already very happy that her application for a unit of the Federal Territories Affordable Housing (Rumawip) scheme was approved, so imagine her delight when she was told she could also pick the unit of her choice.
In previous projects, Rumawip buyers drew lots to see which unit they ended up with, but things were done differently for the Residensi Rimbunan Rumawip units in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling.
The buyers’ names were drawn instead, and when their names called out, they were allowed to pick the units they wanted.
Lo’s name was the first to be drawn.
The 37-year-old product adviser was surprised when told she could choose from any of the 272 units in the upcoming 20-storey apartment block.
“I didn’t know that I could choose until today.
“I was happy when my name was called and decided on house number eight on the eighth floor. I’m a Chinese and believe that number eight will give luck.
“I hope my house will give me more luck. I live with my six-year-old daughter in a rented home in Pandan Jaya. Thanks to this scheme, I will be able to own my own home,” she said.
Teacher Nurul Raedah Abdullah settled for house number 11 on the 16th floor.
“I’m not very particular about the unit as I had no expectations, so I randomly selected house number 11 on the 16th floor.
“I just wanted a unit here as it is very near to my school where I teach. I’m renting a house in Sri Petaling and will move in as soon as I get the keys,” she said.
Meanwhile, tutor R.Peramathevan, 26, was quick to choose a corner unit on the 16th floor.
“My lucky number is eight, so I wanted my house number to be eight. As for the floor, I just wanted a high floor. I am just happy that I finally get to own my own home,” said the bachelor who lives with his family in Puchong.
The drawing session at Menara Seri Wilayah was launched by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Also present was Federal Territories Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Adnan Md Ikhsan, DBKL executive director (Planning) Datuk Mohd Najib Mohd, MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas, I&P general manager (projects) Zaini Yusoff and DBKL advisory board member Datuk Wilson Lau Hoi Keong, among others.
Tengku Adnan said that as of March this year, the ministry had reached 55,609 units or 70% of the 80,000 affordable houses targeted for the Federal Territories by 2020.
“This is a very strategic location, and we received 835 applications in the two months since the launch on Jan 20. Many people wanted to own a unit here, so I hope the owners will not sell them for profit after the 10-year moratorium period.
“The developer also promised to waive one year of service fee,” he said.
The project is developed by I&P Group on a 1ha land. The 20-storey building will comprise of 272 units. Each unit is 829sq ft and comes with three rooms and two baths, as well as one parking lot.
The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
