KUALA LUMPUR: Well-known green building certification body GreenRE recently held its third Sustainable Development Awards 2022/2023 to encourage more developers to incorporate green practices and standards in their development projects.
Held during the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association's (Rehda) 50th Anniversary Dinner in One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya, GreenRE celebrated green real estate excellence and honoured projects that achieved outstanding sustainability performance in the preceding year alongside the auspicious occasion.
Presenting the awards to the winners was Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming in the presence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the association’s Golden Jubilee gala dinner. Accompanying them were Rehda president Datuk NK Tong and GreenRE board chairman Datuk Seri FD Iskandar.
The winners, by category, were:
- Commercial Building (Office) Category - Lot 91 by Impian Bebas Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd and Sapura Resources Bhd
- Commercial Building (Mixed Development) Category - 1 Powerhouse by Bandar Utama City Assets Sdn Bhd
- Industrial Building Category - Hap Seng Business Park by Hap Seng Logistics Sdn Bhd
- Residential Building (High Rise) Category - Megah Rise Residensi by PPB Hartabina Sdn Bhd
- Top Sustainable Developer 2022/2023 - Sunway Property
Receiving the awards on behalf of their respective companies were KLCC (Holdings) group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Md Shah Mahmood, Sapura Resources managing director Datuk Shahriman Shamsuddin, Bandar Utama City Corporation Group CEO Tan Sri Teo Chiang Kok, Hap Seng Logistics project general manager Allan Teh, Sunway Property central region property development division senior executive director Chong Sau Min and PPB Hartabina CEO Low Eng Hooi.
“The winning developments are projects that showcase the six elements of a high-performing green building, namely energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, environmental protection, green innovation and carbon emission as well as resource management,” said Tong.
“Developers are now more cognisant of the need for sustainable designs and green features in their projects, and the Sustainable Development Awards is held specially to recognise the efforts taken by these developers whom we believe exceeded expectations. The winners set a very high benchmark for the industry, which we hope will be emulated by more developers all over the country,” he further added.
The awards presentation was fittingly held during one of the biggest nights for Rehda to celebrate the continued growth of the association and its vision to move forward towards sustainable development. At the same time, the Sustainable Development Awards is a testament to Rehda’s commitment to carry out its nation-building role of providing quality, affordable homes in a timely manner for the benefit of the rakyat.
