DESIGN students now have a chance to see their work becoming part of the landscape of i-City’s township in Shah Alam.
The township’s 29ha master development plan was created with the participation of many well-known international master planners, architects and designers.
Now, i-Bhd, the developer of the township, is offering young Malaysians the chance to take part in a new project in i-City.
Henry Butcher Retail managing director Tan Hai Hsin, also a retail consultant for the mixed-development project, said the competition was a way to seek innovative ideas for a facade.
Tan said reaching out to the community was important to get fresh new ideas.
“We know young Malaysians have great and exciting ideas. So, we decided to organise a design competition to source for ideas from young Malaysians,” he said.
i-Bhd director Monica Ong said participants would be helping i-City design the facade for a retail component in the western part of the i-City development.
“This retail component offers a very vibrant concept that complements the demands of the surrounding population and is also within walking distance to Central Plaza mall in i-City.
“There will be a lot of public spaces and the City of Digital Lights as seen in i-City currently will be well reflected in the retail design and layout,” Ong said.
The front facade of the development parcel faces Lorong Keluli IC.
The facade, for design purposes, consists of six levels of parking bays and is 18.8m high and 302.5m wide.
All Malaysian citizens who are currently registered as a student with a local or international university or equivalent, are welcome to take part in the contest.
Participants can enter as an individual or as a group. The official language of the contest is English.
Design entries should be based on i-City’s theme of City of Digital Lights and/or The Pulse of Selangor.
The designs must allow for 70% air ventilation at the carpark entrances and be able to incorporate LED lights and 10 facade panels for signage with dimensions of 10m by 5m each.
The winning design will receive RM10,000 cash.
The deadline for submission is Nov 30.
The i-City i-Design contest will run from Oct 1 to Dec 31.
Winners will be announced by the end of December or early January.
