SKYWORLD Development Group brought cheer to the Bukit Jalil Recreational Park with its fun-filled World Environment Day Carnival recently.

The event attracted more than 400 residents from the neighbourhood and beyond.

The carnival marked SkyWorld’s maiden community-focused initiative under its Community Engage-ment Programme, with the aim of bringing communities closer together through various activities and engagements.

To kick off the programme, more than 200 heliconia were planted surrounding the Bukit Jalil Recreational Park, from 10 different species such as the American Dwarf, Tropic Fleur, Lady Di and Rostrata.

The carnival had performances such as “Live-at-the-Park” by Paperplane Pursuit, who entertained the crowd with songs from their acclaimed album Higher, upcycling workshops by Biji-Biji Initiative as well as the sale of various sustainable products at the Eco bazaar.

The crowd was also treated to a gastronomical experience, thanks to food trucks such as Meatball Kingdom, Wheeloaf and Teazer Food, and some residents even won prizes from games and quizzes held throughout the event.

“We are delighted to initiate an event such as this World Environment Day Carnival, which not only aims to instil values of sustainable living but more importantly, serves as a platform for communities to come together.

“It is our hope that we can continue to benefit communities around our developments so that we can help instil communal values lost in today’s urban living.

“At SkyWorld, our goal is to build positive shared principles and affinity within each and every community,” said SkyWorld Development Group executive director and chief operation officer Lee Chee Seng.

Biji-Biji Initiative, an NGO promoting sustainable living through upcycling and green design ideas, organised workshops on the basics of managing a garden, imparted tips and tricks for a bountiful harvest and how to do backyard composting.

“This marks our first initiative for SkyWorld’s Community Engagement Programme, and the public can keep a lookout for more interesting activities throughout the year.

“We believe that change can happen one step at a time,” said Lee.

As part of its vision to redefine urban high-rise living within the city centre, SkyWorld Development together with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (and Commissioner of Buildings launched the I Love My Strata Campaign, which is Kuala Lumpur’s first engagement programme targeting communities living in high-rise developments.

The campaign aims to address common challenges pertaining to strata living such as vandalism, cleanliness, payment of maintenance fees, noise and aggressive behaviours.

The campaign was a response to the rise in behaviours which had contributed to the unsatisfactory strata living experiences.

This is also due to the fact that there is a rising urban population staying in strata properties within the vicinity of Kuala Lumpur, ranging from public housing projects to luxury strata communities.
