BATU PAHAT: State investment arm Johor Corporation, through its subsidiary Johor Land Bhd, is set to develop 2,659 houses that includes affordable homes in Sri Gading here.
The development on a 95.50ha land, known as Taman Mutiara Gading, would also see the construction of a specialist hospital that costs RM95mil to meet the people’s healthcare needs.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the two major projects were important to Batu Pahat, which is a unique district that could help to boost the state’s economy.
He said the district was set to enjoy more economic spillover from the upcoming High Speed Rail mega project, which connects Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
The housing project would consist of 1,599 units of double-storey terrace houses, 1,060 low- and medium-cost houses, 113 shop offices, six mid-low cost shop lots and two commercial lots.

Mohamed Khaled added that the residential development, slated for completion in 2019, offers affordable homes at RM42,000 and RM150,000 under the Johor Affordable Homes Scheme.
He added that the district needs at least another 461 hospital beds by 2018 and that the KPJ Specialist Hospital development could cover half of the demand by providing 240 hospital beds to meet the people’s needs.
“The Batu Pahat population is expected to grow to about half a million in the next four years, along with the need for more quality healthcare providers,” he said.
