DEVELOPERS of several new neighbourhoods in Kota Kemuning should contribute to new infrastructures in the township, say residents.

Kota Kemuning Residents’ Association (KKRA) chairman Mohd Radhi Cheah said the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) had plans to upgrade many things in the township but was short of funds.

Unanimously calling out to three developers, the residents felt that part of the cost of a new traffic dispersal plan should be borne by the developers.

Kota Kemuning has been plagued by deteriorating traffic congestion over the last few years and the council recently presented a new dispersal plan to residents last week.

The two-phase plan included new traffic lights in the first phase as well as three flyovers in the second phase along Persiaran Mokara.

Residents also insisted on including a flyover that was promised earlier but had been removed from the master plan.

The flyover was supposed to be built for traffic from the Kesas Highway into Persiaran Anggerik Malaxis.

The cost, if approved, would be RM10mil for the first phase, RM90mil for the three flyovers and an estimated RM25mil for the flyover in Anggerik Malaxis.

“MBSA has these plans but it lacks funds and the traffic will increase with the new developments. So, it is only right that the developers do their part,” Radhi added.

Another resident, PK Chue from Kemuning Bayu, said the three new developments put together were bigger than Setia Alam and one of it would be developed in phases over the next 15 years.

Chue said the residents felt that the developers should at least contribute to the proposed three flyovers since it would be built on the roads leading to their developments.

“Residents already take an hour to get to Subang Jaya but if things are not rectified soon, it may take an hour to get from our houses to the Kesas highway,” he added.

KKRA treasurer Zahari Mohamed said the entire township should be restructured with a holistic long-term solution that would benefit the residents.

Zahari said this was the only way to reduce the cost of other infrastructure that may be needed in the future.

“These infrastructure will also benefit the new developments and may attract new buyers as well,” he stressed.

During the meeting, MBSA engineering director Cheremi Tarman had said MBSA hoped to get funds from the Federal Government, under the 11th Malaysia Plan.

He also said the council was in the midst of discussions with the developers.
