GEORGE TOWN: A developer will be slapped with a stop-work order by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) today after complaints of construction materials falling onto some nearby houses in Jalan Perak.
Penang Island City councillor Ong Ah Teong said photographs have been taken at the site of the mixed development project.
“The construction materials are believed to have fallen from the seventh floor of the building. Fortunately, nobody was injured,” he said, adding that the developer had cleared the debris by the time he arrived at the site yesterday.
One said the stop-work order would be served today and be in force until the developer fulfil all the safety requirements.
“The architects will also be warned to ensure that their workers comply with the standard operating procedures,” he said.
Ong added that this was the second case in the past two weeks.
“We will not take such incidents lightly as the public’s safety is our priority,” he said.
Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, who was also present, urged every developer in the state to ensure that all safety measures were taken at their project sites.
