PROPERTY developer UMLand emerged tops in The Iskandar Malaysia Accolades (TIMA) 2016/2017 with three awards for two of their major townships there.
Their Seri Austin township was picked as the Corporate Value Champion. They also bagged the Overall Value Champion of TIMA award.
Bandar Seri Alam township, on the other hand, was voted as the Most Balanced Community.
A total of seven categories of awards were offered to industry players from various sectors in Iskandar Malaysia.
UMLand Seri Austin chief executive officer K.K. Wong described the awards as recognition of their initiatives and efforts in Iskandar Malaysia.
“We were recognised as the first Smart Healthy City and Communities township in Iskandar Malaysia in 2014,” he said, adding that to date, Seri Austin had won over 60 awards.
He added that they were the first in Johor to provide high-speed broadband (HSBB) Unifi Internet service to residents in townships. They also created the first-ever designated bicycle lane in the state.
“Beginning May 1, we collaborated with the Johor Baru Food Truck Association and have allocated space for 10 trucks to sell their food between 4pm to 11pm from Monday to Wednesday at our sales gallery parking lot,” Wong said, adding that the initiative has been well received by residents.
Wong added Seri Austin was a good investment choice for Malaysians.
“In 2006, our double-storey units were selling for about RM200,000 each but now, the prices have increased to above RM500,000,” he said.
Wong added there is still a market for landed high-end property, especially for cluster and semi-detached houses, despite the challenging economic outlook.
“With the Aeon Mall coming up in Bandar Dato’ Onn, the area will become more vibrant,” said Wong.
He explained that Seri Austin started with its maiden launch about 11 years ago.
“Now 80% of our land is already used up and we expect to continue building for the next five to six years,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bandar Seri Alam in Pasir Gudang, which is known as the City of Knowledge, has more than 15 schools, colleges, universities and international schools.
Among the major ones are Masterskill University College, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Excelsior International School, UniWorld International School, Japanese school, Nam Heng Chinese Primary school and Malaysian Art School.
The renowned Foon Yew High School will soon join the list of educational institutions here.
There is also a 33km bicycle lane to promote active lifestyles and reduce carbon emission.
To improve safety and security, the Eastern Police District Headquarters was set up within the township.
The township also offers a list of retail outlets including Tesco, Today’s Market, McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, Marry Brown, KFC, Tea Garden and Starbucks Café.
