Kuala Lumpur: City developer, SkyWorld Development Group (“SkyWorld”) had hosted two weekend events, of friendly chess tournaments in its aim to connect the community and cultivate healthier activities for children.
More than 1,000 grade-schoolers registered and pulled out their chess boards for a tournament co-organised by SkyWorld and Mega Chess Academy.
SkyWorld, chief operating officer, Lee Chee Seng shared, “It was great to see the community coming together for a positive and healthy cause.
More than the game of chess in itself, tournaments like this assist with connecting the community and teach youngsters about personal responsibility, aside from sharpening their minds and developing first had relationships with their peers.
Those that took part in the aforementioned tournament may also learn key lessons such as the consequences of actions on the chess board. Some contestants had even become so immersed in the game, displaying an infinite number of possible moves so much so those that took part in the chess tournaments, adopted playing chess as a hobby.”

- 11 & 12 June 2017 – Chinese Chess Tournament @ SkyWorld Property Gallery @ Bukit Jalil.
760 registrants, aged between 8 to 18 years took part in the two-day Chinese Chess Tournament.
The competition started at 8:30 am and nded at 6:00 pm.
More than RM6,700 prizes were won by winners from three different categories.
Parents who showed up to support their children were treated to artistic crystal-clear candles and caricature mementos.
- 18 June 2017 – English Chess Tournament @ SkyWorld Property Gallery @ Setapak
390 registrants, aged between 8 to 16 years took part in the one-day English Chess Tournament.
The competition started at 8:30 am and ended at 6:00 pm.
More than RM3,000 cash, medals, and certificates were won by winners from four different age categories.
Parents who showed up to support their children were treated to unique caricature mementos.
