THE Malay settlement village of Kampung Baru in Kuala Lumpur is set to get a facelift within the next nine months, to attract more tourists to the area, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansur said.
“Some of the projects in the pipeline are to improve the road and lighting conditions as well as looking at the overall traffic dispersement,” he said during the Volunteer Malaysia 2015 at the Sultan Sulaiman Club.
He added these plans were in line with the mission to develop the place as a “mini Kuala Lumpur” with Malay characteristics.
Kampung Baru Development Corporation (PKB) chairman Datuk Affendi Zahari said other plans to upgrade the area included setting up pocket parks.
“Under our ‘Quick Win’ programme we have identified three areas to build pocket parks where there will be jogging tracks as well as a herb garden.
“Other plans include implementing a one-way system in Jalan Raja Muda Musa and Jalan Raja Alang as well as upgrading Jalan Raja Abdullah to connect to Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway 2.
“Jalan Raja Muda Musa will also be landscaped with greenery and an arch,” he said.
Affendi said this was in line with PKB’s RM43bil Kampung Baru Detailed Development Masterplan (PITPKB) for the next 20 years.
Some 2,000 people took part in the Volunteer Malaysia 2015 organised by iM4U.
Volunteer Malaysia is a volunteer movement whose objective is to gather or engage Malaysians through volunteerism activities among local communities.
The event is the culmination of the group’s activities throughout the year and is held simultaneously in 14 locations nationwide.
In Kampung Baru, volunteers worked together to clean up and beautify the area.
Among the activities were mural-painting and gotong-royong.
iM4U chief operating officer Rudy Malik said the event was a platform for people to connect and engage through volunteerism.
