SHAH ALAM: Malaysia’s leading property developer, SP Setia Berhad showed support towards the National Sports Day 2015 by hosting the inaugural Kuala Lumpur Spartan Race in Setia Alam Oct 10 and 11. This is also the first time the race is being organised in South East Asia. The race attracted an estimated 10,000 people who attended the event as participants or to cheer on those who participated in the race.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin was seen officiating the Spartan Race in Setia Alam today. The Youth and Sports Minister had earlier announced the race as one of the iconic events to anchor the National Sports Day.
“Surrounded by lush natural landscaping, waterscapes, community parks. ample amenities and further boosted by its natural terrain, Setia Alam is the preferred location for the Spartan Race so when the organiser approached us for the venue sponsor title, there was no doubt that we would be fully supportive of such a healthy programme which is also in conjunction with the National Sports Day,” said SP Setia Bhd executive vice president Tan Hon Lim.
The Spartan Race features an Obstacle Sprint of approximately 6 kilometres and 25 obstacles in Setia Alam. The categories available are Elite Heats, Open Heats, Masters Category and Biggest Spartan Team 2015. The Elite Heats caters to competitive racers with prizes to be won for the first, second and third place, while the Open Heats are open for general racers. The Masters Category caters to participants above the age of 40 while the Biggest Spartan Team 2015 is for the team that registers the most number of participants. There is also a category for children aged from four to thirteen years old.
“True to its philosophy of 'Live, Learn, Work, Play', SP Setia provides opportunities for its employees to participate in activities such as the Spartan Race, which trains one’s determination and endurance in competing all the obstacles. It also promotes great teamwork,” said Loo Chik Then, who represented Team Setia at the race.
