KUALA LUMPUR - OSK Property today, announced its collaboration with GreenTech Malaysia Alliances and KLOTH Lifestyle to produce its new company uniform using recycled plastic bottles. This exercise is also a continuation of the OSK Property branding exercise following from the brand launch earlier this year, upon completion of the merger with the property arm of PJD Group.
Every year, a massive number of plastic bottles is consumed in Malaysia and most plastic wastes more often than not, ends up in landfills and waterways causing devastating effects on sea life and the well-being of the environment.
“As a developer, we often ask ourselves what we could do to be more innovative and to play our part as a socially responsible company. We are fortunate to have met GreenTech and KLOTH Lifestyle and we are proud to be a part of the initiative to develop corporate uniforms using recycled plastic bottles. We hope that this will mark the beginning of OSK Property’s sustainability journey and we hope to be able to adopt more green technologies in our operations and developments moving forward,” said Ong Ghee Bin, Chief Executive Officer, OSK Property.
Through this partnership, OSK Property is also the first property development company in Malaysia to receive a partnership programme certificate from GreenTech Malaysia Alliances for its effort to support sustainable corporate transformation under the waste management initiative.
Plastic bottles are a viable, eco-friendly and sustainable resource. With proper waste management and cultivating the 3R lifestyle of reducing, reusing and recycling, every small effort creates a footprint that helps to clean the environment.
OSK Property’s new uniform is made out of 40% recycled polyester and 60% organic cotton – saving 8.5 plastic bottles every shirt. The regenerated polyester fibre that is made from recycled plastic bottles are environmentally friendly, cost-effective and safe to use. It also performs equally well as 100% virgin polyester.
How is it made?
KLOTH Lifestyle collects clear plastic bottles from waste processors around the country and shreds them into plastic flakes. The plastic flakes are then cleaned and converted into pellets and spun into polyester yarn.
Facts about RPET - Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate, also known as Recycled Polyester:
- 90% less water is used in making recycled polyester versus polyester
- RPET requires 70% less energy than virgin fibre production
- Recycling one plastic bottle saves the equivalent of 3 hours of energy from a 60 watt light bulb and 1 kg of RPET keeps 60 water bottles out of landfill
With a wide variety of special treatments, this fabric is the perfect choice for OSK Property’s use be it in the office or at the construction site, due to its sustainability and durability qualities.
OSK Property has custom-made its new uniform with a unique mandarin collar with a selection of fabric finishing that enhances the performance and at the same time, provide our staff with uniform that is internationally certified by Scientific Certification System (‘SCS’) and Global Recycling Standard (‘GRS’).
Each piece of uniform will be embroidered with a label that signifies the number of recycled bottles used to produce the outfit and serves as a reminder to all employees to practice a sustainable lifestyle. This is a significant step for OSK Property in its effort to cultivate eco-friendly and sustainable technology not only internally but also implementing high Green Building Index (GBI) standards into its developments.
