PETALING JAYA: Last Saturday, saw over 3,000 fitness enthusiasts and food lovers taking part in the first inaugural Sunsuria Foodiethon event in Malaysia, organized by Sunsuria Bhd.
The Sunsuria Foodiethon is a new family-friendly concept whereby one gets to choose between a 7KM Fun Run or a 30KM Fun Cycle, which ends with participants being met with a delicious variety of food trucks at the finish line.
The weekend event kicked off at 7.30am, with a joint flag-off for the Fun Run and Fun Cycle events that took place surrounding the Salak Tinggi, Putrajaya South, neighborhood. This included the 525-acres of freehold land encased by Sunsuria City, a new integrated master-planned smart township development expected to launch over phases, within the span of eight years.
Part of the running and cycling route included the majestic views of the new Xiamen University Campus Malaysia, China’s first overseas university in Malaysia, located in the heart of the Sunsuria City township.
Prior to the event flag-off, Datuk Ter Leong Yap, founder and executive chairman of Sunsuria Bhd, Koong Wai Seng, chief executive officer of Sunsuria Bhd, Simon Kwan, sales and marketing director of Sunsuria Bhd and Harry Wong, chief executive officer of Oride (M) Sdn. Bhd. officiated a bike sharing ceremony that will soon be introduced to the residents of Sunsuria City in the near future.
“Aside from promoting a healthier lifestyle through running and cycling, we also hope to demonstrate the spirit of Sunsuria City’s guiding principles – Smart, Livable & Sustainable (SLS), which will be the key foundation in everything we plan to develop in this integrated master-planned township for our customers, said Datuk Ter Leong Yap.
A handful of national icons also took part in the Sunsuria Foodiethon event including former Malaysian professional badminton players, Wong Choon Hann, Chan Chong Ming, Lee Wan Wah and Chew Choon Eng.
Other special guests such as Suhardi Hassan, the Malaysian professional racing cyclist, Melinda Looi, Malaysian renowned fashion designer, Dennis Lau, Malaysian-born electric violinist and songwriter as well as other popular guests, graced the event in support of a healthier lifestyle.
Besides running and cycling, there were lucky draw opportunities worth up to RM10,000 up for grabs, along with free food vouchers totaling up to RM30,000 for participants to redeem, from over 25 food trucks and vendors at the Foodiefest area. The first 1,000 foodie lovers were also given RM5 food vouchers to the food festival.
Other attractions included giant bubble making, clown magicians, stage music DJ, air brush tattoo booths and photo booths, catered to all ages.
