CELEBRATING hard work and dedication was the theme of Mitrajaya Holdings Bhd’s 30th anniversary ‘Glitz and Glam’ gala dinner.
About 1,000 of its employees, who were decked to the nines, were feted to a sumptuous spread at the snazzy Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
Mitrajaya group managing director Tan Eng Piow said the company’s successes would not have been possible without the diligence and perseverance of its staff.
“These awards offer an opportunity for the group to say thank you and acknowledge the work of our dedicated and excellent staff, without whom the company’s growth would not be possible.
“Our construction division has secured some RM1bil worth of contracts while our property arm is in the midst of our second high-end residential project in Wangsa Maju.
“Also in the pipeline is our integrated township development in Puchong Prima which is expected to generate a GDV (gross development value) of RM2bil,” said Tan.
During his speech, Tan also announced a scholarship fund for children of Mitrajaya staff.
“We want to help these children realise their academic aspirations in local and private universities,” he said.
In line with its philanthropic spirit, Mitrajaya gave out RM90,000 to the National Kidney Foundation and Hospice Malaysia.
At the event, 123 employees were acknowledged for their long service ranging from 10 to 30 years.
Mitrajaya sales and marketing director Kok Siew Leng, 53, who received her 30-year long service award, credited Tan for teaching and offering her opportunities, and was also grateful for having a strong team to work with.
Kok still recalls the time when she helped form Mitrajaya with Tan and another shareholder.
“I did everything then – administrative, clerical and even secretarial work.
“I worked my way up to become a purchasing manager, and was promoted to sales and marketing director despite having no academic qualifications then.
“I am happy and proud of my achievements and recognition, and of the company that has now grown to have a few hundred employees based in offices in Puchong, Kuala Lumpur and in South Africa,” she said.
Mitrajaya was established in 1985 and is involved in the construction, property development, healthcare and manufacturing industries.
In his speech, Mitrajaya Holdings Bhd chairman Jen Datuk Ismail Hassan said Mitrajaya had come a long way since starting out as a construction outfit in 1985, to being listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in1994.
