KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will be working with Khazanah Nasional Bhd to build an underpass from Taman Tugu to Taman Botani Perdana.
The project also includes constructing 1,200 parking bays in the park. Both projects will cost about RM50mil.
DBKL executive director (planning) Datuk Mohd Najib Mohd said DBKL was one of the main partners in the project in terms of planning and execution.
“We are also looking at the possibility of connecting the park with Carcosa Seri Negara as we feel that there is great potential in tapping into that part of the park,’’ said Mohd Najib.
Carcosa Seri Negara is a union of two stately bungalows; Carcosa and Seri Negara.
Last year, DBKL took over the management of the 100-year-old Carcosa Seri Negara which has since been closed.
“We are now working with architects who are experts on heritage sites and old buildings to design something for the old bungalows.
“After that, we will be talking with possible partners,’’ Mohd Najib said.
He added that DBKL would also work with the National Heritage Department (JWN). Carcosa Seri Negara was declared a national heritage site in 2007 and as a heritage building, any development on the site must be in line with the National Heritage Act, 2005.
“We want to explore ways to maximise its heritage factor because that is its selling point.
“At the same time, we also want to have a say in the way the place is run.
“That is why the Government is investing money into its refurbishment,” Mohd Najib said.
Mohd Najib added that there was a lot of repair work to be carried out in the buildings, including landscaping work.
“Once ready, it is going to be a wonderful addition to the Taman Tugu project,’’ he added.
