WORKS to build a retaining wall in Damai Gayana, Bandar Damai Perdana in Cheras has resulted in cracks in a few houses there.
Although residents were relieved, they had been on tenterhooks after the concrete wall, protecting their homes collapsed in January 2015.
However, they said work to repair the wall had caused cracks to appear in their houses.
Tom Ek, 48, said after work commenced, there were now cracks in his compound due to soil settlement.
“I am happy that the retaining wall has been rebuilt but I want to know when my house would be repaired,” he added,
Balakong assemblyman Eddie Ng said the developer would start work on four houses that required immediate attention while the others would be attended to soon.
Asked about the delay in rebuilding the wall, Ng said that although the developer had wanted to fix it immediately, the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) had rejected their initial plan as the design was deemed not suitable.
“The plan was also audited by an independent engineer and finally approved on Oct 23 last year,” said Ng during a site visit.
He was accompanied by a representative of the developer as well as MPKj officers.
Work began soon after the plan was approved and was completed on Sept 8.
The 700m retaining wall cost over RM10mil to build.
