HOUSE break-ins and rampant snatch thefts in Taman Setia, Klang have left people living in fear.
Taman Setia Residents Association (Tasra) chairman M. Sivaguru said there was an urgent need to have three exits closed permanently because of the increase in the number of snatch thefts as well as car and house break-ins.
Sivaguru said Tasra comprised 640 households and its seven-member committee together with association secretary K. Jayandra worked hard with the local council to ensure cleanliness of the 35-year-old neighbourhood was maintained.
As a result of snatch thefts and house break-ins, the association has been trying to coax its members to agree to a permanent closure of three exits at Jalan Mastika, Lorong Raja Haji Othman and Jalan Pokok Sakat with support from Klang Municipal Council.
Closure of the exits has been a long drawn issue, as Tasra was unable to get the consensus of residents.
What most residents want is for the South Klang Police headquarters, which is 2.6km from the neighbourhood, to beef up patrols and nab the snatch thieves.
Certain parts of Taman Setia are plagued with perennial flash floods where a 35-minute downpour caused drains to overflow and flood residents’ homes.
In some houses, the water was ankle deep. Residents have even suggested that MPK build a retention pond.
Tasra has been active in getting MPK to desilt the drains and clean up wild vegetation on vacant plots of land within the neighbourhood.
