THE residents association (RA) and Rukun Tetangga (RT) committee in USJ 6, Subang Jaya are not seeing eye-to-eye on the issue of perimeter fencing erected around the housing area.
The fencing in USJ 6, which is close to the USJ 7 and Taipan LRT stations, was setup in August by contractors hired by Prasarana.
However, the RT are not happy that instead of being set up near the drains, the fence has been installed on the road shoulders along USJ 6/7.
RT chairman Major (R) Ismail Feisol said this not only reduced parking space but also obstructed pedestrians from walking by the road.
“The road is already so narrow. Doing this endangers pedestrians as they need to walk on the road,” he said.
He said some residents had complained that the fencing had taken up parking spaces and that lack of parking was a long-standing issue in USJ 6.
“Without the road shoulder, it will be tough for contractors to carry out maintenance works on the lights or to repair cables. Visitors would also have problems finding a place to park when they visit,” he said.
“Logically, it is not right to put the fencing there. The RA did not discuss the issue with the RT and we have qualified engineers who could have had a say in this.
“We just want the fencing moved further back so that it will be along the drains,” he said.
He said USJ 6 residents living further away from the station would also not be able to park their cars closer to the station.
Ismail added that he did not know if the residents’ association had the full support of all residents when they requested for the fencing on the road shoulders.
Another issue brought up was that the height of the fence was only 1.2m when it should be at least 1.5m for residents’ safety.
Ismail said the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) had said it would step in to bring both parties together to discuss the fencing issue but he was uncertain when a meeting would take place.
RA chairman Dr Sairin Salleh, however, said the RA had not received any complaints about the perimeter fencing.
“The objective of the perimeter fencing is to ensure there is no illegal parking.
“Why do they have a problem now when years ago, no one parked their cars along the road shoulder?” he asked.
He added that the RA had also requested for Prasarana to consider raising the height of the fence to 1.5m for security reasons.
On Aug 23, MPSJ issued a stop-work order to contractors and asked them to place the fencing along the drains in areas where fencing had yet to be put up.
MPSJ corporate communications officer Muhammad Azli Miswan said a stop-work order was issued to Prasarana as there were objections from residents.
However, after reviewing the matter and reason for the fencing’s placement, the council has approved the continuation of work to set up the perimeter fencing along the road shoulders along Jalan USJ 6/7.
A spokesman from Prasarana said the installation of the fencing, at 1.5m tall, had been completed.
