City Hall imposed new parking rates in KL CBD on Monday but scrapped the new introduced fee for TTDI area in less than two days later.

City Hall, following public outcry over the new parking charges in Kuala Lumpur, had scrapped the newly introduced rate at Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) area.

The move comes with immediate effect.

The new parking fee was imposed in TTDI and several other areas in Kuala Lumpur on Monday morning.

The revision was made following a meeting between City Hall and Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor this morning.

“After taking in the views of all parties, City Hall had decided to revert the parking charges at TTDI since it is a residential township," said Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz.

Star Metro on Monday reported that City Hall had increased their parking charges in the central business district (CBD) by 150%.

The affected areas are Bukit Bintang, Bukit Damansara, Sri Hartamas, Desa Hartamas, Solaris Mont Kiara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Bangsar where 75% to 100% parking spaces are taken up during peak hours.

The hourly parking charges in the CBD has been increased from 80sen an hour to RM2 for the first hour.

The rates have been raised to RM3 for the second hour and RM3 for the subsequent hours.

Motorists who parked from 7.30 am to 6pm would have to fork out as much as RM32 a day for parking charges under the new rate.

The new parking charges will be enforced in stages from now to Aug 1 depending on its locality.

Rates will also eventually go up by next month in zones outside the city where the parking charges are currently 50 sen per hour.
