HAWKERS who were given licence to operate from a multistorey carpark in Taman Segar, Cheras in April have still not been given the go-ahead to start by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
Since the carpark’s launch by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on April 17, the place has been unoccupied.
Cheras MCA Youth committee member Heng Sinn Yee said all 28 new and fully equipped stalls, with water and electricity supply, were ready for use and the hawkers were still waiting for an answer from DBKL.
“The hawkers have drawn lots for the stalls. They wanted to operate soon since the MRT line is already functioning here at Taman Mutiara,” said Heng.
Meanwhile, Taman Segar residents expressed concern on the ongoing congestion on the way out of the carpark to Jalan Manis.
Taman Segar Residents Association deputy chairman Wan Ahmad Sepwan said traffic flow along Jalan Manis was slow, especially during peak hours.
This was a result of irresponsible drivers who break the law by driving across the road, over a double white line, to get to Persiaran Lemak.
To make matters worse, drivers also illegally parked their cars on the side of Jalan Manis instead of parking at the multi-storey carpark, he said.
Residents, too, complained of being stuck in heavy traffic when sending their children to nearby schools, he added.
Ahmad Sepwan called on DBKL to find a solution to ease the congestion.
