VISITORS to Penang shopping malls will probably get the best parking rates in Straits Quay on the island and Sunway Carnival Mall on the mainland.
Both malls charge only RM1 for the first three hours of parking. The lost ticket penalty is RM20 in Straits Quay and RM10 in Sunway Carnival.
A check by The Star showed that their rates are the same for weekdays, weekends or public holidays.
An additional RM1 will be charged for every subsequent hour.
In all shopping malls, the next chargeable hour of parking is always specified as ‘or part thereof’, which means that if you park for even one minute into the next hour, you will have to pay for the full hour.
In Queensbay Mall, on weekdays, the parking fees are only RM1 for the first two hours in the basement and RM1 for the first three hours at the multi-level parking facility.
On weekends and public holidays, visitors are charged RM2 for the first hour in the basement and RM2 for the first two hours at the multi-level parking facility.
RM1 is charged for every subsequent hour and the lost ticket penalty is RM30.
At 1st Avenue Mall, the charge from Mondays to Fridays is RM2 for the first two hours or part thereof and RM1 every subsequent hour.
Patrons pay more on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays – RM4 for the first three hours and RM1 for every subsequent hour.
The lost ticket penalty at 1st Avenue Mall is RM50, the same as its overnight parking surcharge.
At Gurney Paragon Mall, the multi-level daily parking rate is RM2 for the first two hours and RM1 every subsequent hour. In the basement, it’s RM2 for the first hour and RM1 every subsequent hour.
On weekends, its basement parking rate is RM2 every hour. The lost ticket penalty is RM30.
At Gurney Plaza, the basement rate is RM2 every hour daily.
At its multi-level carpark, the rates are RM2 for the first three hours on weekdays and RM1 every subsequent hour.
