PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) former president Chan Ai Cheng was awarded Estate Agent of the Year 2023 by the Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agents, and Property Managers Malaysia (BOVAEP), a recognition of Chan’s professional achievements and commitment to ethical and leadership practices. 

Chan served as MIEA president from July 2021 to June 2023. Under her tenure MIEA memberships increased, raising the institute’s visibility and influence among the public and strengthening its financial position. 

She also launched resources such as the Real Estate & You e-publication and the D’REAM newsletter to provide practical guidance and resources for industry professionals. She initiated the MIEA Certified Courses to elevate professional standards and education, and to assist small real estate firms, she developed the MIEA Agency Support Service to foster inclusivity and support within the industry.

Receiving the award, Chan said she was deeply honoured and said the achievement represents the values and standards her father Charlie Chan, who also served as the MIEA President from 1995 to 1997, had instilled in her. 

“This award is not just about individual achievements, it is about the collective effort to uphold and advance the standards of our profession particularly as new innovations are being introduced such as artificial intelligence,” she said. “I am proud to be part of a legacy that values integrity, excellence, and service to the community.”
